I am embodied, therefore I am

SECRET SAUCE OF CONSCIOUSNESS | PART 4

The goal of this series was to identify the building blocks of creativity if not the process itself. Instead, this series has matured into a call to action.

In the first post I talked about how algorithmic, sequential thinking does not lead to creativity. In the second post I make the case that we need love and faith to grasp the as-of-yet intangible. In the third post I say that we need attention to harness the power of our faith. This is where I hit the road block. Sure, being attentive gives me the answers but where do the answers come from? As it turns out, no one knows — not the smart ones, not the stupid ones, not the creative ones, not the boring ones. This forced me to shift gears and do something I have more control over on an everyday basis. I’ve said in previous posts that outcomes are a distration and creativity is another such outcome. I should not be going after it. Instead, I should be focusing on the process. I should be asking myself if my actions true to my vision? What I do is ought to be consistent with what I say.

I wrote a piece called ‘Passion of the Barbell’ and stated that I love weightlifting. Now, do I behave in a way supports this statement? If I am a whiny baby during training, do not do my accessories, do not eat well or sleep well then I am straight up lying and I have no business writing an article like that. However, that is not the case. I follow my coaches training plan and when I am outside the gym, I do my homework and prioritize recovery. If I say I want to be at the best of my abilities, then my every day habits ought to reflect that. It is my right and responsibility to do so. As the Bhagvad Geeta says “ You have a right to perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions.”

The original idea of this series was to figure out creativity or at least know what the pre-requistes are. And I assumed that since humans are consciousness and few are creative, knowing the building blocks of consciousness was a good place to start. No one knows what consciousness is but I thought I could at least identfy the ingredients of this secret sauce. While I was on this journey, it was revealed to me that even if I knew the ingredients of the secret sauce of consciousness, I will likely never know how creativity works. Creativity is the outcome and we do not have much control over it. However, we have control over how we embody our values and vision.

I say that love is one of my values. Do I embody this value and practice it? I say attention is my only currency. Do I use it wisely or do I drift through time? If the answer to these questions is yes, if I am being true to my values and the vision of myself, then I am embodied. And therefore I am.
